體重過重或是過輕都會使身體罹患許多疾病的機率變高,身體每累積多餘的熱量到7700大卡時,就會增一公斤的體重,而且小時胖的人長大之後也會胖的機率相對提高,研究指出肥胖兒童有42 - 63%的機率變成肥胖成人;肥胖青少年也有70 - 80%的機率變成肥胖成人,以上這些人未來都有可能會變成心血管疾病或糖尿病等慢性疾病的患者。
